Botox® is a drug used to relax muscles and is derived from Clostridium Botulinum. Botox® has been used for years by ophthalmologists for treatment of blepharospasm. Most recently Botox® has been used as a treatment for frown lines and crow's feet.
As skin loses its elasticity over time, movement of facial muscles by frowning or squinting can lead to wrinkles and fine lines. With tiny injections, Botox® is administered by a physician directly into the muscles. Botox® relaxes the muscles, preventing further development of fine lines. Within four days, improvement can be seen. Because Botox® treatment is non-surgical and requires no anesthesia, no down-time is required. Patients may resume their usual activities immediately. The discomfort is described by patients as minimal, resembling the sensation of a bug bite. It is simple, safe and effective. Results last for up to four months.
